Automobiles in German City Found Smeared with Swastikas in Human Blood, Law Enforcement Confirm

Incident location Affected vehicle Area Law Enforcement
Authorities reported they were alerted by a resident who noticed a automobile in Hanau marked with reddish substance

Approximately fifty vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by police.

Cars, building surfaces and postboxes were marked, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they stated in a official communication.

Police state they were contacted late on Wednesday night, when a resident observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored substance.

The fluid had been applied in the form of a swastika, they added.

Police then found numerous other marked cars and residential walls in the surrounding area.

These symbols are banned in Germany under laws outlawing the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.

Law enforcement say initial examinations indicate the fluid was most likely blood from a person.

"At present there remains no clue as to its source; investigators are not yet aware of any harm in association with the event," they added.

Municipal representatives said they were working "to solve the case" and have appealed to the residents for tips.

A senior representative stated the vandalism left him without words and needed to be resolved promptly.

"This event hits the center of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the far-right terrorist attack in 2020," he posted on social media, referring to the death of nine individuals by a assailant targeting individuals of migrant background in five years prior.
